Maria G. Perez, LCSW/ CDVP
Reiki Practitioner/ Holistic therapist
I’m a bilingual, bicultural, nature-loving, Mexicana. I’ve been involved in the social work field since 2005. Initially working with domestic violence survivors going through legal proceedings and working on obtaining orders of protections. This experience brings me valuable experience in being able to identify red flags in relationships as well as legal knowledge on ways to support. I then had the opportunity to work in a head start setting with children and their families, where one of my main roles was to refer children needing further assessment for developmental or behavioral concerns.
In 2016 I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of Illinois in Chicago with a concentration in mental health and evidence based practices with children and adolescents. After graduating I worked in several different settings that allowed me to work with folks of all ages and with different presenting issues. My last role prior to starting Paz Interior was working with DCFS mandated clients and providing them with parenting support.
I value authenticity, compassion, and cultural humility. I create a safe, nonjudgemental space where clients feel seen, heard and respected. I believe in empowering clients to reconnect with their inner wisdom, honor their lived experiences, and navigate healing at their own pace. My approach is rooted in honesty, empathy, and a deep commitment to supporting personal growth and well being.
In the therapy room you will find that I often use humor, as appropriate, and am pretty laid back. While we are doing important and heavy work, we also know that laughter tambien es medicina para el alma.
